The MOST important thing to remember about the JW stand on blood is that regardless of the risks or benefits of receiving a blood transfusion, the JW stand is that it is not permitted. EVEN if blood treatment it were 100% safe with absolutely no risks attached the stand is to refuse blood to the point of death.
The key thing to remember is that English law states that every patient with capacity has the right to make a decision about their own healthcare treatment.
This is NOT upheld by the JW religion and it will use all the power in its armoury to ensure that a JW patient will refuse blood treatment to the point of death if necessary. By using the Hospital Liaison Committee, the local elders, and JW family, the emotional pressure on a JW patient to refuse blood treatment is IMMENSE. Make no mistake about that.
A JW patient may be sitting in a hospital bed, or a JW parent may be asked for consent to life saving blood treatment on a child, and after weighing up the nature, purpose, benefits and likely side effects of that treatment, they might wish in their heart to be able to CONSENT to that blood treatment but they know if they do consent they will shunned by the JW religion.
In my humble opinion, any JW patient going into hospital for treatment where blood treatment is a possible part of it, is in no position to be able to make their OWN decision about treatment.
And it is time that doctors realise the emotional pressure that JW patients are under when it comes to discussing blood treatments.

i think many witnesses are victims of deception.
i do not believe that the vast majority of them truly understand the folly of their religion.
like many good roman catholics or devout muslims, they believe that their faith is the true one.. many jws are basically "good" people.
There are many still in the religion who are not happy in it, and have doubts, but know that if they leave then their family and so called friends will shun them.
They are certainly victims of emotional blackmail
Now I like to think I am the sort of person who says "screw you" to anyone who wants to be my friend with nasty conditions attached. But there are a lot of people who are vulnerable and timid and not use to standing up for themselves, particularly not to familiy members who are JWs.
Me? I refuse to be trodden on anymore! And woe betide anyone who tries!!!!
Although with genuine friends I like to think I am a real sweetie!!!!! But then with genuine friends I have no need to be on my guard!

well sometime ago when i was meeting at the kingdom hall i overheard someone whos been in the tower all his life say to someone " have you heard that the number of the annointed are going up and not down, people are saying they are of the annointed when they are not".well since, i have spoken to an elder about overhearing this and all i got back was " no this person wasnt questioning the watchtower, just pointing out a problem".so they know this is going on and they dont even question anything.its just so ridiculous for people who examine and scrutinze for study every word the wt puts out.
That is the standard response to a question that cannot be answered by referencing a watchtower.

It is a clever ploy. It means that very few will openly express their doubts otherwise they will be seen as spiritually weak, and not a good associate. It is a close jump from that to being DA'd or DF'd and let the shunning begin.

talking to a friend (ex-elder) today whose wife was (is) a close friend of mine .
she's still a jdub but won't talk to me now i'm df'd (apparently it hit her very hard when we left) and so she busied herself with ministry and meetings in search of comfort and affirmation of her faith.
this didn't work for her and she came out with an unexpected question... .

Personally I don't believe in god. If there is a god then he /she/it is criminally negligent in failing to step in and put right the things that are wrong in the world. god has been apparently boasting for thousands of years about their powers and sense of justice, but done nothing to prove it. If I could find gods address I would sue for criminal negligence.

It wouldn't hold any legal validity however - no dates, no signature!! A medical team could (and would be strongly advised to) continue to treat in an emergency!

i was one of the group of sound servers in the congregation to play kingdom hall tunes, flip mikes on,etc.record the meetings [ scary thought].half the time we had to replace the casette tapes as people never returned them after they lent them.well anyway a few times i often entertained thoughts that i would love to start the opening of a meeting with bon jovi- living on a prayer or some other rock song like that.oh what the hell i think i,ll return one more time and leave with a loud entrance.
It used to make me laugh (still does!) that the "promise" of carrying a microphone around for 45 minutes is seen as a privilege and a bargaining tool!!!!
And if that brother was able to do the microphones, AND answer up during the Watchtower, it would show just what a zealous brother he was because he had clearly pre-studied!!!!
